Bell Station

As part of the Mernda Line upgrade, Casello was engaged by the North Western Program Alliance to deliver the prefabricated facade framing for the architectural feature walls at the new Bell Station.

The primary challenge lay in the station’s large glazed facades, which were originally designed for on-site construction using a traditional stick-built method with structural steel. Given the complex geometry and angular articulation of the facade, Casello leveraged its prior experience with NWPA and shutdown-sensitive environments to work closely with CMG Frames in engineering and manufacturing the prefabricated modules off-site. A total of 36 prefabricated LGS modules were delivered – 18 per elevation, varying in size.

3D modelling software was used to meet seismic, wind and structural load requirements while ensuring precision across all fixings, mounting plates, support brackets and glazing interfaces. This dimensional accuracy allowed for the early procurement of imported glazing units, knowing they would integrate seamlessly into the frames upon arrival. The prefabricated approach avoided the need for perimeter scaffolding, enhanced site safety, and reduced time on-site, all critical advantages during the tightly scheduled rail shutdown period.
